About Nemity
A free tool that ranks every Victorian electricity plan in the official CDR feed by your actual usage — not an average household.
What it is
Nemity compares every Victorian electricity plan in the official CDR feed by what it would actually cost you. Not an average household. Not a generic estimate. Your real usage, hour by hour and season by season.
Most comparison sites use broad averages. Nemity uses your own meter data — the interval readings you can download from your distributor or retailer — or a quick usage estimate you fill in yourself. The result is a ranked list of every plan we can get data for, priced for exactly how and when you use power through the year, not just a flat yearly average.
Why the “average household” is the wrong yardstick
Most comparison sites price one typical household and rank everyone against it. The same plan can come up cheap for one home and dear for the next. Whether a free power window pays off depends on when your dishwasher runs. Whether time-of-use beats a flat rate depends on which half-hours your power lands in. The answer is a fact about your household, not about the plan.
It also changes with the seasons. The best plan for a summer of solar and air-conditioning is not always the best for a winter of heating. Nemity prices each season on its own, so the ranking reflects the whole year you actually had.
This matters more than it sounds. On an average-household ranking, the plan that genuinely suits your pattern can sit far below plans that would never suit you. With your own data, the list reorders around how you live.
And the comparison points forward as well as back. Price the next 3 or 6 months ahead (they use the same dates from your own data one year back), or model solar, an EV or a battery to estimate what every plan would cost with the change, before you spend anything. Those figures are estimates, modelled rather than metered: a guide to which plans suit the change, not a forecast of a bill.
Private by design
Your meter data is read in your browser and never leaves your device. The file you upload is read locally, the comparison is run locally, and the result is shown locally. Nothing about your usage is sent to our servers.
We use PostHog to collect anonymised analytics — how many people upload a file, where they get stuck. This is only to improve Nemity for you. It does not receive any content from your meter file. See our Privacy Policy for the full detail.
What we don't do
- We don’t accept payment for placement or ranking. Plans are ranked purely by cost.
- We don’t share your usage data. It stays in your browser.
- We don’t run advertising.
- We don’t sell data.
An honest tool
Energy plans are genuinely complex. Tariff structures, conditional discounts, time-of-use windows, and seasonal rates all interact in ways that are hard to model perfectly. We work hard to be as accurate as possible, but mistakes may happen.
Some retailers describe a real benefit — a bonus feed-in rate, a sign-up credit — only in their marketing text, not in the data we read automatically. We read and price as many of these as we can, but with thousands of plans on the market, we won’t catch every one. Sign-up credits are included — as filed data, or read from a retailer’s own offer text where that is the only place they appear. A credit paid inside the period you compare counts in full. One paid later is shown beside the price, not in it. Some benefits, like loyalty points, can’t be turned into a fair dollar figure at all — where that’s true, we say so instead of guessing.
A few Victorian retailers do not publish their plans to the CDR feed at all, so we cannot price them: Discover Energy and Tesla Energy (Powerwall owners only). If you are considering one of those, check its own website for its prices.
If something looks wrong — a number that doesn’t match your bill, a plan that seems to be missing — please tell us. Feedback like that is how the tool gets more accurate for everyone.
